Wichita Swing Dance Society |
When/Where can I take classes and how much do they cost? Beginner lessons are every Sunday evening at 7:00 at Sway Ballroom. We also have an intermediate class at 6:00. Click Here for pricing info. The lessons are followed by one and a half hours of social dancing. Do I need previous dance experience? Nope! We welcome the greenest of beginners and encourage them to attend the intro-to-swing lesson at 7:00 each Sunday. In each half-hour lesson, students are introduced to enough material to keep them dancing all night. Do I need to bring a partner? Nope! Come as you are; we rotate partners, so everybody dances with everybody else. Do I need special dance shoes? Nope! Wear what makes you comfortable. In the warmer months, be sure to pick shoes that will stay on your feet (unlike, say, flip-flops). What is it like at a typical dance? On a regular Sunday night dance in Wichita, this is what you can expect to find: Eager dancers of many skill levels, a large dance floor, and DJed music. The dancers will range from people who have never danced before to people who have been dancing for decades. The music will include a variety of genres, but they will all be suited for swing dancing. There are tables and chairs and free water. The crowd is very friendly, and it is common for strangers to ask each other to dance and for everyone to dance with many partners throughout an evening. Newcomers are always welcome. |
